In Key Stage 3 students are taught to:
- Read and interpret staff notation accurately in a range of musical styles, genres and
traditions
- Identify various types of Western music and composers through a study of Music
History
- Develop the skills required for performance in a range of solo and ensemble contexts
through voice or musical instruments
In Key Stage 4 they will:
- Improve on performance skills learned in Key Stage 3
- Develop a deeper understanding of the music that they perform and to which they
listen, as well as its history
- Compose, extend and develop musical ideas by drawing on a range of musical
structures, styles, genres and traditions
- Identify and use the inter-related dimensions of music expressively and with
increasing sophistication, including use of tonalities, different types of scales and
other musical devices

- An End of Year exam
