Welcome From The Principal

Mr. Robert
Franklin

Location

Located in the Mabushi district of Abuja and enjoying purpose-built, state of the art facilities, The Regent Secondary School is a British style, co-educational boarding and day school for students aged 11 – 16.  We educate the whole person, teaching both the core and wider curriculum, but our focus is unapologetically academic, and achieving the best academic results remains the school’s stated aim.

The Regent Family

As part of the Regent family, The Regent Secondary School enables students to enjoy the benefits of an all-through school, offering continuity throughout their formative years and a shared philosophy and ethos, with teachers working together across different year groups and in each of the three schools.  We believe that this consistency is fundamental both to our students’ academic success, and their personal development.

Boarding

The Regent Secondary School offers a boarding option to our students, either on a full-time or flexible basis, with a third of our students boarding.   Our boarding houses are comfortable and well-equipped, providing a home from home, under the care of an experienced team of house parents and a resident nurse in each house.  House Parents oversee their students’ academic progress while also taking care of their pastoral welfare, thereby offering parents peace of mind.  We place an enormous emphasis on community, and this is reflected in everything that we do.

Academics

Our curriculum is broad and balanced and based upon the National Curriculum of England and Wales in Key Stage 3 (11-14 years), leading to the IGCSE examinations of CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) at the end of Key Stage 4 (14-16 years).  Students graduating from The Regent College, our sister school, enter top universities, in the UK, USA and worldwide.

Our move to blended learning provides flexibility to our teaching and learning while facilitating student access to teachers.  Combined with online, interactive textbooks, our blended learning approach means that our students are engaged in driving their own learning experience.  This caters to students’ individual learning needs, while the emphasis on flexibility facilitates personalised learning as teachers may deliver lessons in a variety of ways, while students may access material from anywhere at any time whilst benefitting from face-to-face support from their teachers.  Furthermore, it enables greater participation between students while also fully embracing technology, thereby maximising both students’ engagement and enjoyment.

Co-Curricular

There are extensive sporting facilities and a very large playing field. A modern auditorium provides great opportunities for music and drama to take place.  Learning takes place both in the classroom and outside it and our co-curricular programme offers a wide range of sporting, cultural and creative activities to suit every taste. In addition to educational visits locally, international trips include participation in the COBIS Games, Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions to the United Kingdom each year and cultural visits to Europe taking in the cities of Paris, Berlin and Warsaw. An annual skiing trip to Switzerland is a highlight of the school calendar.

Good citizenship plays a key role in any young person’s upbringing and our students are encouraged to play their part in the future development of Nigeria and the wider world. In addition to contributing to the smooth running of the school through such bodies as the Student and Boarding Councils, outreach to those less fortunate is a regular activity of Regent Secondary School students.

Invitation

A website or prospectus can only give an overview of what our school is about. A visit in person will always give a clearer picture of the warmth and friendliness of the school and the real breadth of what is on offer here. You are welcome to come and see us. Regular ‘open house’ events also take place in which student guides show the school to visitors on an ordinary working day.

I look forward to welcoming you to our school.
